Which way are you going, asshole?

I searched "turn signals" on Google and came upon this funny little journal entry by Jamie Zawinski, age and location unknown (and unimportant). I empathized strongly with the post.

as the dipshit turns

Buddy, I have days like that too. Unfortunately, it's become more frequent than it needs to be.

Another false alarm in the neighborhood today...the engines roll on past us, up to Church street, hang out for a few minutes, find nothing wrong, and head back to station again. Rather a false alarm than a real one, but such is the usual for our city. I'm fuly aware of the negative reputation our city has as a result of the types of crime and the frequenct thereof, yet I still know how much this city has going for it, and why some people, like me, stay out of choice and not out of necessity. I can walk around a neighborhood I've never walked through before, or along some streets that I've driven through on my way to somewhere else, and note the atmosphere of the neighborhood that I don't get from the car. I may come across a nice house in a block of run-down, or at the very least, not well-taken-care-of houses, or I may see a business I never knew was there. Today, I found a nice looking (at least from the outside) bar on Douglass street between Centre Avenue and 3rd street. Some neighborhoods may look terrible, whether it's because of what they are located near (factories, warehouses, and the like), or simply because its residents don't take care of it well enough (or even because the city doesn't). I just find it fascinating that there is so much diversity here...diversity of appearance, of culture, of attitude. I'm sure my dad, through his 20+ years with the fire department, and my friend Kelly, through his 16-odd years with the police, have seen their share of this diversity many times over. It's not for everybody, I know. But wherever you live, I encourage you to take the time and explore your surroundings, on foot. You can see and experience much more on a walking tour of your own making.
