Batman Begins
So I went to see this highly recommended latest Batman attempt, and I have to say, I was very impressed. As someone who's been exposed to the character for years, but was never an avid reader of the Batman comics, I was interested to know the history of how Bruce Wayne came to decide on taking on this persona. Apparently, this movie followed the comics very closely, laying out the death of Bruce's parents, his fear of bats, and the training he undertook in Asia. Not flashy like some other Batman movies, this piece seemed more a story about Bruce Wayne and less about Batman. This is not to say that there wasn't a lot of action, because there was and it was fast and furious, and the camerawork really reflected this. I don't think there's been as good a Batman/Bruce Wayne as Christian Bale. I love the range Gary Oldman has as an actor...playing a ruthless committee head in The Contender, or a freaky vampire in Bram Stoker's Dracula, and many other countless roles...and here he plays Sergeant/Lieutenant/Commissioner Gordon with just the right touch of regular human being. I was pleasantly surprised to see Rutger Hauer in this movie...with this and Sin City, we may see a resurgence in his career. I always liked him, no matter how many bad movies he made. I would definitely watch this movie again, and it does leave little doubt that another Batman movie is forthcoming.
